Under the theme of this year’s 66th International Foundry Conference (IFC), “Innovations in the Foundry Industry for a Sustainable Future”, current developments and potential solutions for the future of the foundry industry will be discussed.
ÖGI presents the ACR (Austrian Cooperative Research) research project “GreenCastAudit – Pathways Towards Sustainable and Low-Carbon Casting Production”.
The two-year project aims to develop a standardized decarbonization and quality audit methodology that enables foundries to systematically assess energy consumption and CO₂ emissions and derive measures for decarbonization.
The project takes a holistic approach by combining energy efficiency, CO₂ footprinting, component quality, and economic aspects. A particular focus is placed on the electrification of melting and heat-treatment processes, the integration of renewable energy sources and energy storage, and flexible operating strategies.
