Casting Technology

Die Casting Technology I

From Fundamentals to Process Optimization.

This three-day seminar provides fundamental knowledge of die casting in both theoretical and practical form.

Content

Theoretical Part

  • Fundamentals of die casting alloys (standards, compositions, microstructures, metallurgy, etc.)
  • Melt quality and melt treatment
  • The die casting process (principles and system setup)
  • Design for die casting
  • Die design for die casting (mathematical, thermal, and mechanical aspects)
  • Simulation as a tool for achieving a stable and robust die casting process

Practical Part

  • Computational design of a real component
  • Casting of the previously designed component using the ÖGI die casting machine (Bühler SC53 D)
  • Routine quality analyses (UDIP, ALSPEK, thermal analysis)
  • Component testing by computed tomography and metallography
  • Process optimization and methods for detecting and preventing casting defects
  • Evaluation and discussion of results

Target Group

Project managers, shift supervisors, design engineers, machine setters, career changers, casting users

Completion

Certificate, short final examination, mandatory attendance

Number of Participants

Due to the practical exercises, the maximum number of participants is limited to 12.
Minimum number of participants: 6.
