Elementary school children discover the world of casting

Excitement, creativity, and wide-eyed wonder: During their visit at the Austrian Foundry Institute (ÖGI), the young guests from Niklasdorf Elementary School got a behind-the-scenes look at metalworking and had the chance to get their hands-on:

Together, the children prepared their own casting molds, choosing from designs such as a squirrel, their class mascot, the famous Hello Kitty, or the traditional Lucky Cat. The highlight came during the casting: Experts from the ÖGI poured the molten metal into the molds. After the pieces cooled, the children were able to hold their handmade figures in their hands and take them home.

In addition to the hands-on experience, the young visitors learned in a playful way how modern foundry technology works and why precision and craftsmanship are so important.

For the children, it was a day full of new impressions, creative experiences, and wonderful memories—perhaps this was even the first step toward a future enthusiasm for technology.
